Garden to Kitchen: Spring Detox Smoothie

Looking at the calendar and the weather, spring is in the air indeed!  With the fresh weather of the new season, this is a great time to get a fresh start and do some “spring cleaning.”   In addition to cleaning around the home, it is also a good time to clean our insides, and a spring detox smoothie is an easy way to start.

Our Spring Detox Smoothie includes super-healthy foods from the garden:  cilantro, cucumber, lemon, ginger, kale, avocado, pineapple, and some ginger peach green tea for an extra boost of energy.

This smoothie is so simple — just peel & roughly chop the ingredients, and pop them into a blender.

Any kind of blender or food processor will get the job done.  Don’t the colors of the fruits & veggies look springy?

Give the blender a nice long pulse, and viola, a super-healthy and delicious smoothie!  Enjoy this yummy detox while you may be cleaning (or thinking about cleaning) your home.  Whichever the case may be, bottoms up!

A refreshing green masterpiece!

Spring Detox Smoothie

Ingredients:

Avocado, peeled and pitted

Cucumber

Fresh pineapple, peeled and diced

Cilantro

Fresh lemon

Kale

Ginger

Ginger peach green tea (you can use any flavor tea as the liquid)

Banana (optional)

Directions:

Roughly the avocado, cucumber & pineapple, and place them in your blender (use whatever proportion suits your tastes).  Squeeze in a bit of lemon juice and add a spoonful of fresh cilantro.   Toss in a large handful of kale, and shave in a small bit of ginger (be cautious — a little ginger goes a long way!).  Add a banana if you like (I do!), and fill the container at least halfway with your liquid.  (I use green tea for the base, but you could also use almond milk or water.  For a thinner smoothie add more liquid, and for thicker texture use less liquid).  Blend until it’s smooth, and you’ll have a creamy, fresh green smoothie.   Drink.  Love.
